Lilly Moves To An Outside Pen

Today was a big day for Lilly and for us. Lilly has grown up quite a bit and although she still needs a bottle 3 times a day, she needs more room to run and play. We felt it was time to put her in a place that was safe and would allow her a little more freedom.[G2:84429]

A new deer in the family

It is so strange how some things happen. On Friday, in need of deer corn, and Atwood's having the best prices, I stopped in and bought 20 bags. It took forever to find someone to load so finally the manager came over and loaded them for me. We got to talking and of course he asked why so much corn. I told him that we had an exotic deer farm and that we were in need to sell some of the deer as there were too many. Well, on Saturday morning, I happened to come in the house just in time to pick up the phone. It was the manager from Atwood. He reminded me of who he was and then said that there was a lady at the store who found a baby fawn and would I take it. How could I say no. I can't believe that he looked up our name and phone number and was asking permission to give it out! The nicest lady from Arp, Pat Adams, came by later that morning and brought Lilly. She had not eaten since 7:00 pm the day before so she was a little dehydrated. I finally got her to eat and now she is up to 9-10 oz. at a feeding. (Through the night too) She is looking much better this morning and actually met Mollie and Zoe who were in the living room when she came walking through the house!

Over Forty Days of Rain and It Is Still Raining!

No one would expect after the drought of last year, that we would now be begging for it to stop raining. The lake was so low last year that you could barely get the boat out and now the water is so high, that you cannot find the boat dock!

After a night of rain, thunder, and lightning, we lost power. Unfortunately the next morning when we left for work, we found out why. A large oak tree had fallen and took out the power line as well as our fence. Luckily, it was on a part of the property where we do not have any deer so nobody escaped.

Spring is in the air!

Today was a great day. Both of our prehistoric golf carts have died and we have been carrying food out to the deer on a dolly. Well the dolly broke a wheel. We used the red pull cart for a while and wouldn't you know it too lost a wheel. After that it was just carry it out the best you can. After much research, we decided that a Kawasaki Mule would be a nice addition and would meet all of our criteria for getting the chores done. I got to take it out for its maiden voyage. Charlie took some pictures. Bambi sure didn't seem to be scared of it!

Elle gets a new name!

It is official. The vote is in. Elle has a new name.

From this day forward, Elle will be known as "Professor".
Since she/he came from UT Tyler, Charlie thought that Elle needed to be a "doctor". We decided that after reviewing her vita and qualifications, Elle met the qualifications for full professor status. Hence the name Professor was chosen.

The Relocation of Elle to Ribbit Retreat

A friend, Denise, had asked if we would consider taking this poor lonely goose that had been living on the UT Tyler campus to live at our home. It seems that the goose named Elle had been brought to campus by her owner (with permission from the university) after a coyote had killed all of the ducks and geese except for her. The owner thought that the ducks on campus would befriend it and it would have a safe place to live, but that didn't happen. Instead, Elle was an outcast and spent her day watching her reflection in the windows or the chrome bumper of cars thinking it was another goose.

Bambi comes for a visit!

Last Sunday, Bambi, our pet deer decided to come up and join us on the patio. It took us a while to figure out how she was getting up, but she was caught in the act climbing the railroad tied and going under the railing.

You can go to my photo album to see some pictures of her visit.

The Emus have Arrived!

As many of you know, it is the male emu who tireslessly sits on the eggs. We have had one sitting on eggs for what seems like forever. We counted nine eggs. Today, we counted three little guys. They look like walking watermelons. It is difficult for them to survive, but hopefully some of them might make it. Please check out the gallery for their pictures.
