Lilly Is Injured

Yesterday started out to be a great day, but soon changed. In the morning I fed the deer as usual and little Lilly, the deer with me in the picture, came up as usual on the patio for a visit. She went down after breakfast and Charlie and I went to put plastic on the chicken coop to keep the guineas from getting too cold and then went to feed the rest of the critters. As we were feeding the ducks and peacocks, I looked over and saw that Lilly was back by the house and our dog Mollie was chasing her. [g2:85536]

She was in a state of panic and continued to bang against the fence trying to get away. We were so far away.Charlie and I both ran. He was able to cover Lilly with his body while I got Mollie.
When were were able to check Lilly over, her face was bashed in from the fence and she had blood coming out of her nose, mouth and near her eyes. We cleaned her up as best we could and let her go back with the rest of the deer.

Later in the day we went looking for her and she really looked bad so Charlie scooped her up and we carried her into the house. I spent the evening trying to calm her down and get her to eat. She rallied about the time Texas won the game and took a bottle for me and a few pieces of bread. I slept on the floor in the apartment because I was afraid she might get frightened again and start thrashing around. She finally curled up with me. Nothing like waking up to deer droppings in your bed, but hey I am okay with that. Needless to say our world stopped and nothing got done around the place. She will spend the day in the apartment and probably the night. When I go to work in the morning, I will have to decide whether she will be safe outside. I am still very worried about her right eye. It is swollen almost shut with bloody drainage. I hope her eye is okay. We are afraid if we try to take her to the vet, she will hurt herself in the car. I have written way too much. I know that she is only a wild creature and it is because of us domesticating her when she was a baby that she got into this mess in the first place. All we can do is our best to love and care for her and pray that she recovers. I keep thinking of the John Denver Christmas song that says to pray for the trees in the forest and all who live there too!
