	Over Forty Days of Rain and It Is Still Raining! No one would expect after the drought of last year, that we would now be begging for it to stop raining. The lake was so low last year that you could barely get the boat out and now the water is so high, that you cannot find the boat dock! After a night of rain, thunder, and lightning, we lost power. Unfortunately the next morning when we left for work, we found out why. A large oak tree had fallen and took out the power line as well as our fence. Luckily, it was on a part of the property where we do not have any deer so nobody escaped. After work Friday, Charlie and I went down to the boat house to check the boat and found that the top was hitting the top of the boat house. Since our boat is not running at the moment and we need to take it in, it was an extra challenge trying to figure out what to do. Luckily for us a boater came by and two men helped Charlie put the canopy down so we could raise the boat up as high as it could go and then turn off the power. The outlet is now under water! This weekend Greg, Jamie, and the girls came for a visit and to help Charlie try to remove the tree and fix the fence. Due to the bad weather and the size of the tree, the job could not be completed. 	A New Mule for Ribbit Retreat Today was a great day. Both of our prehistoric golf carts have died and we have been carrying food out to the deer on a dolly. Well the dolly broke a wheel. We used the red pull cart for a while and wouldn't you know it too lost a wheel. After that it was just carry it out the best you can. After much research, we decided that a Kawasaki Mule would be a nice addition and would meet all of our criteria for getting the chores done. I got to take it out for its maiden voyage. Charlie took some pictures. Bambi sure didn't seem to be scared of it!

	Spring is in the air! Spring has officially arrived with the birth of the first baby deer of the year. "Annie" arrived on or about our wedding anniversary, March 21st - hence the name Annie! Tonight when we looked out into the backyard, we saw that Annie was not alone. She has a playmate which has not been named. I hope to add more pictures tomorrow.

	Elle gets a new name! It is official. The vote is in. Elle has a new name. From this day forward, Elle will be known as "Professor". Since she/he came from UT Tyler, Charlie thought that Elle needed to be a "doctor". We decided that after reviewing her vita and qualifications, Elle met the qualifications for full professor status. Hence the name Professor was chosen.

	The Relocation of Elle to Ribbit Retreat A friend, Denise, had asked if we would consider taking this poor lonely goose that had been living on the UT Tyler campus to live at our home. It seems that the goose named Elle had been brought to campus by her owner (with permission from the university) after a coyote had killed all of the ducks and geese except for her. The owner thought that the ducks on campus would befriend it and it would have a safe place to live, but that didn't happen. Instead, Elle was an outcast and spent her day watching her reflection in the windows or the chrome bumper of cars thinking it was another goose. She looked so sad. Knowing that we had nine geese, Denise thought that Elle might be happier on our pond. That is how Elle came to Ribbit Retreat. Our home seems to be a safe haven for critters who have no place to go. Relocation was scheduled for 1700 on Thursday, February 8, 2007. For pictures, please see the photo gallery.

	Bambi comes for a visit! Last Sunday, Bambi, our pet deer decided to come up and join us on the patio. It took us a while to figure out how she was getting up, but she was caught in the act climbing the railroad tied and going under the railing. 	The Emus have Arrived! As many of you know, it is the male emu who tireslessly sits on the eggs. We have had one sitting on eggs for what seems like forever. We counted nine eggs. Today, we counted three little guys. They look like walking watermelons. It is difficult for them to survive, but hopefully some of them might make it. Please check out the gallery for their pictures.

	Sally is one amazing dog! Today Sadie and Lacie went to be groomed and Sally was alone all day. I decided to leave her in the house on her dog bed as she had been so good. When I got home, there was Sally to welcome us. She couldn't have been a more perfect dog. I have never met a dog as well mannered as she is. What a gift she has been to us. The Tyler Morning Telegraph did a follow up article on her. Poor Sally was not pictured again. Sandy gets all the photo ops, but that is okay with us. We know who the real beauty is! Please read their article. I thank Jacque for featuring Sandy and Sally last Friday. view article I can hardly believe that she will only have been with us a week tomorrow.

	Sally goes to the doctor Today Sally went to visit Dr. Spence and get her check up. He said that she looked great. She had her heartworm test, fecal test, and received her rabies vaccine. She is now sporting her new rabies tag with her new address engraved on the back. Sally is now an official Varnell. Welcome to our family, Sally. We love you. (Sally was a big hit in the waiting room. Everyone said what a great, well-mannered dog she was.) I think Sally was glad to get back home and know that she truly was "home". A good day! See album for a picture of Gayle, Sally, Lacey, and Sadie. Lacey and Sadie go for grooming tomorrow so we will post more pictures when you can see Lacey's face.

	Sally Day 4 Well, Sally is settling in. She has spent the last 3 nights in the house. Charlie said that she definitely did not want to go to the garage this morning when it came time for him to go to work. When I got home this afternoon, Sally was waiting in the garage. She went outside with Sadie and Lacey and then came in to spend the evening with the family. She still is very curious about the cats. As you can see from the latest picture, Charlie and her are "bonding". We bought her a Tempur-pedic dog bed yesterday which she seems to really like. Tomorrow afternoon Sally has an appointment with our vet. I am hoping that he does not find any problems with her. Either way, she will need her rabies shot and heartworm check. We will post more pictures later.
